ON A QUEST FOR A BETTER, MORE BEAUTIFUL TOMORROW

This is the foundation for our responsibility work at Pilgrim – shaping how we act, create and contribute across all areas of our business.

We all know it. The fashion industry has a significant environmental impact. And while we can’t change that overnight, we are deeply committed to taking responsibility for the impact we make.

We’re not here to claim perfection. In today’s world, true sustainability is a complex and evolving goal. What we can do is act with transparency, stay curious, and keep moving forward, one step at a time.

EMBEDDING RESPONSIBILITY IN HOW WE WORK

Our responsibility journey is ongoing. We are proactively integrating better practices into every part of our business – from materials and production to design and innovation. It’s not a straightforward path, but our ambitions are clear: to go beyond simply creating pieces for self-expression.

That’s why we continuously work to optimize the materials we use and explore alternative production methods. Today, an increasing share of our products is made from recycled materials – and this share grows with every new collection.

OUR APPROACH

Being a pilgrim means staying curious and open to change. That mindset shapes our approach to responsibility and sustainability. It’s not about quick wins or perfect solutions, but about long-term thinking, steady action, and full transparency.

We have been proud members of the UN Global Compact since 2007 and align our operations with its Ten Principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals, with a particular focus on Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and Goal 13: Climate Action. This is where we believe we can make the greatest difference.

Transparency is central to our approach. Sharing both progress and challenges builds trust and drives real change.

We define clear KPIs and measurable targets to track our sustainability efforts, and each year we publish a sustainability report outlining goals, results, and areas for improvement. Through ongoing monitoring and communication, we strengthen accountability and trust.

Pilgrim has zero tolerance for corruption in any form. We are committed to conducting our business with integrity, transparency, and accountability both internally and across our entire supply chain.

All partners must comply with our anti-corruption policy. Through clear expectations, regular audits, and dialogue, we actively prevent misconduct and promote a culture of honesty and ethical responsibility.

MATERIALS

Working with recycled materials is central to our sustainability efforts. By increasing the use of recycled materials in products and packaging, we aim to reduce the demand for virgin resources and support lower material waste – without compromising design or quality.

This supports the principles of a circular economy, where materials are kept in use for longer instead of being discarded. While recycled materials still require energy in production and result in CO₂ emissions, they allow existing resources to be used again rather than relying solely on new raw materials.

From 2026, over 80% of our products are made from at least 75% recycled materials – primarily the base metals: brass, zinc and stainless steel. While some components like crystal stones, freshwater pearls, or clasps may not yet be recycled, we continuously work to improve.

Our recycled materials come from pre-consumer and post-industrial waste, including discarded metal products and excess manufacturing materials. This reduces virgin extraction and contributes to a more circular production cycle.

We have developed a Preferred Material List, which our designers use to guide material choices during product development. The list functions like a ranking system, comparing materials based on their environmental and social impact, such as water usage, carbon emissions and sourcing responsibility.

Our collection of waterproof jewelry is IP gold-plated and IP silver-plated. These pieces are extra resistant to corrosion – ensuring greater strength, durability and longevity.

The IP coating integrates more deeply into the core of the jewelry, making each piece even stronger, more water-resistant, and more durable for everyday wear.

All our waterproof jewelry has been tested both through internal wear tests and by an independent testing institute. The results show that the jewelry has a higher resistance than normal and therefore meets their criteria for waterproof jewelry.

All our products comply with the AFIRM Restricted Substances List (RSL), ensuring they meet strict industry standards for chemical safety and are safe to wear.

SOCIAL IMPACT

How we make our products matters just as much as what they are made from. We collaborate with manufacturers that meet our high standards and share our values. We foster long-term partnerships built on mutual respect and transparent dialogue, and we support continuous improvement through collaborative efforts.

All direct suppliers have signed our Code of Conduct, rooted in the UN Global Compact, setting clear expectations for ethical behaviour throughout our supply chain.

In addition to our Code of Conduct, and to ensure that our standards are upheld in practice, all direct suppliers and main plating factories undergo annual third-party audits through Sedex, using the SMETA 4-Pillar standard.

All audit results are carefully reviewed, and where issues are identified, corrective actions are initiated to ensure continuous improvement. The SMETA 4-Pillar framework helps us align our supply chain with both our own values and international expectations for responsible business conduct.

We maintain a local quality office near production sites and engage regularly with suppliers to support transparency and progress.

We have an Ethical Purchasing Policy in place to ensure we take responsibility for how our products are made – not just by setting high standards for our suppliers, but by committing to ethical behaviour ourselves.

We place strong emphasis on responsible sourcing practices. We strive to follow fair purchasing practices by respecting deadlines, avoiding last-minute changes, and working to ensure fair pricing – helping reduce the risk of issues such as forced overtime or underpayment.

At Pilgrim, we value a diverse, inclusive, and respectful culture, where everyone has equal opportunities, regardless of background, identity, or seniority. Our goal is to build a workplace where people feel empowered, supported, and able to thrive – both professionally and personally.

Pilgrim is built on the belief that a positive workplace creates better results. We continuously improve policies supporting inclusion, wellbeing, and work–life balance.

Our jewelry is designed to be inclusive and adaptable – and most pieces are adjustable in size and versatile in style. We believe in creating space for everyone to express themselves freely – moving fluidly between styles, identities, cultures, and sexualities.

We are committed to supporting causes that reflect our values of compassion, inclusion, and social responsibility. We do not support political parties, political organizations, or any form of lobbying.

Instead, our charitable contributions go to independent, humanitarian efforts that aim to improve lives without political influence. One example is our long-standing partnership with Doctors Without Borders, whom we have supported since 2003.

Each year, especially around Christmas, we also support local organizations working for good.

CIRCULARITY

Circularity is a mindset that influences how we design our products and work with materials. In recent years, we have increased the share of recycled materials in our collections. Going forward, we will continue exploring how circular principles can be integrated into our design, material choices and product life cycles, with the aim of reducing waste and making better use of resources.

To support longevity and reduce unnecessary waste, proper care plays an important role in how long a product lasts. That’s why we’ve developed a How to Care guide – designed to help extend the life of our jewelry and sunglasses through thoughtful everyday habits.

We continuously improve our internal waste management by sorting, tracking, and recycling materials wherever possible. Partnerships with Uniplus and El Recycling help ensure responsible handling of electronics and equipment.

For our product packaging, our jewelry bags and display cards are made from 100% pre-consumer recycled plastic. For paper materials, we prioritize FSC-certified paper. This forms part of our ongoing work to develop our packaging and use materials more thoughtfully.

CLIMATE ACTION

We are taking action to reduce our climate impact. Our efforts start by measuring emissions and setting goals for our own operations, and over time, we will expand our focus to include more areas of our supply chain, where we know the greatest impact lies.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved Pilgrim’s near-term science-based emissions reduction target.

“Pilgrim commits to reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.”

The SBTi has classified this target as being in line with the Paris Agreement and the 1.5°C trajectory, which represents the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process for near-term targets.

The approval of this near-term target confirms that Pilgrim is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions in alignment with climate science and the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Scope 1: Direct emissions from company-owned and leased vehicles.

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity and heating/cooling used at our operational sites under direct control, including offices in Denmark and China, warehouse facilities in Denmark, and Pilgrim retail stores in Denmark and Sweden.

Our emissions are calculated using the operational control approach and in accordance with the Danish Climate Compass (Klimakompasset), developed by the Danish Business Authority in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency. The base year for our target is 2023.

We work broadly to reduce our climate impact across our operations and value chain, with a primary focus on the areas where we have direct control and can take concrete action. A key focus is the gradual transition to electric company cars by 2030, alongside efforts to reduce energy use and improve energy efficiency.

Across our supply chain, we work together with suppliers and other partners to minimize emissions and support the transition towards lower-impact production and logistics.
